For some reason, sparse doesn't like using an expression of type (!x) with a bitwise | and &. In order to mitigate that, we use a local variable. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``.
